Analog Synthesizer
AUDIO_DSP VCO ANALOG
> Exec_Summary
At 15 years old, I explored the intersection of objective electronics and subjective audio by building a DIY analog synthesizer. Instead of programming digital oscillators, I utilized dedicated analog oscillator ICs to generate sound.
> Waveform_Generation
The core of the system is the ICL8038CCPD precision waveform generator and voltage-controlled oscillator. This IC simultaneously produces sine, square, triangle, and sawtooth waves. While its theoretical range spans 0.001Hz to 300kHz, the objective was to target the human audible range.
I followed a specific datasheet solution designed for the 20Hz to 20kHz range. The circuit configuration required 7 resistors, a potentiometer, a diode, and two capacitors. The potentiometer provided stable, consistent frequency adjustments.
> Audio_Superposition
To achieve a richer sound, the final design utilized 4 identical circuits. The outputs of these precision oscillators were combined through simple electrical superposition to form the final audio signal.
